How does it work?

The first step is a free-of-charge Initial assessment. This is a detailed, calm consultation where we aim to understand your health needs and determine if we can help you. During the initial free assessment, we’ll have an in-depth discussion to explore your health concerns and get relevant background on when symptoms started and how they’ve progressed. Our goal is to understand the potential underlying causes behind these. At this consultation, we’ll discuss your medical history from an integrative approach, including current symptoms, any diagnoses, testing and treatments so far, as well as diet, lifestyle factors, occupation, family history, and psychosocial aspects. On average, this takes about 45 minutes but more time can be arranged if needed. We kindly request that you have any relevant investigations, such as scan reports and blood tests, as well as any letters from your specialists, at hand during this session.

Following the initial consultation, we will stay in contact to let you know if we believe we can help with your health problems. If so, we’ll send an invitation to schedule your first formal appointment at your earliest convenience. The goal of this new appointment, after analyzing all the information gathered during the initial assessment, will be to provide greater clarity on your health situation, establish a therapeutic plan, and agree on initial treatment steps and a calendar for further follow-ups. These typically include significant diet modifications, supplementation advice, lifestyle changes, and instructions for tracking symptoms, among others. We don’t rush to recommend extensive testing upfront. However, if we believe certain tests could provide pivotal insights in your case, we may suggest completing these early on.

Following these, the process normally involves regular follow-up appointments scheduled every few weeks or months based on your individual needs. For specific and localized issues, this may span over six months, while more complex cases involving multiple health problems might require a year or even a year and a half of support. This continues until your body has had the opportunity to heal, you understand your health needs better and can manage more independently. Our approach gives you complete freedom and control, you decide when to schedule your appointments or discontinue these if you feel you no longer need them, without any pressure or hassle.

Remember, this is just a general plan, a structure to make things more understandable and effective. We are aware each person has a different history and circumstances, and many times appointments, care plans, diet and lifestyle changes, supplementation, etc, cannot be on the clock due to personal and family factors, work-related pressures, and other health circumstances. There are no penalisations here if you change your mind, if you need more time, or if you prefer to do things slowly or faster. This process cannot be a source of stress, but the opposite. We will adapt to your needs.

The appointments are conducted via Zoom, Skype, or the video conferencing platform of your preference. You can easily schedule them online. Our current pricing is £55 per consultation, which should be paid at least 72 hours before the appointment. On average, these consultations last approximately 30 minutes.

  1. At TheGutWay, we are a team of functional practitioners with backgrounds in nursing, nutrition, and functional medicine. We are not doctors, we do not prescribe or treat you with prescription drugs, instead, we provide guidance and information on Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) treatments, focusing on nutrition, diet, supplementation, and health and lifestyle counselling. Our aim is to empower you to make your own informed decisions about your health and well-being, but never to prescribe you a specific treatment, administer or apply any given treatment by ourselves. 2. Functional medicine is a great choice when it comes to chronic conditions, inflammation and nutrition-related conditions, and hormonal and metabolic imbalance syndromes secondary to lifestyle and diet. It aims to fulfil the complex human health needs that can arise in any of us, but are not actually being addressed by the conventional health systems either due to their primarily having a symptoms-resolving approach, or sadly, because the progressive financial decadence of conventional health systems has lead them to lose most of the consistency and continuity with their patients. Functional medicine tries to identify and intervene on the mechanisms that are causing disease, instead of focusing on resolving the symptoms as the main target.
  3. Conventional Western Medicine is in simple words one of the greatest miracles of our time, without it half of us would be dead and the other half sicker. It is the best for acute and emergency situations that require short or immediate attention. Is it perfect? Far from it, for many reasons that we won’t explore here, but please bear in mind that at least your needs are purely preventative and you don’t experience symptoms, the process of disease-diagnosis should ALWAYS start by informing your doctor first. Functional medicine will try to fill in the gaps and establish a medium-long term plan to address the root causes, but if you have a traffic accident, an infection or cancer, you don’t want a functional therapist, you want to head your way to the hospital.
  4. Each case is different and it will depend on what your particular needs are, but on average, common supplements (ranging from specific vitamins, pre and probiotics to natural analgesics, micronutrients and post-biotics) for about three months can be around 100£. We don’t sell supplements nor make money from them, it’s up to you where to buy them. However, if you struggle to find a reliable source or prefer some advice on where to get them, we can of course help you with it.
